RONE – Races Of New Era – Second Edition – set in a post-apocalyptic time on earth – without zombies. Heroes (players) search out and fight for resources using the only currency remaining – Water. Heroes are building a deck of resources made up from technology, tactic and unit cards and can level up twice during the game. Exhaustion is attached to certain cards which, when coupled with the fighting mechanism, makes this game so interesting. If you run out of resources you have been defeated and your opponent is declared the winner.
This is a heavily thematic, exciting, tense and engaging deck builder with many cards to set up from, so two games are extremely unlikely to be the same providing masses of replayability. The artwork is awesome and truly immerses players into the game, this immersion is further enhanced by the fact that all of the many, many heroes have three levels to them. It features a clever and tension inducing fighting mechanism, where cards are laid down in turn order but played in reverse order. For those who have the first edition, the game is backwards compatible as the cards are distinguished by an expansion symbol easily distinguishing which card belongs to which version.
